# Art credits

World art in this directory is the **Sunnyside World Asset Pack V2.1** by
**Daniel Diggle** — <https://danieldiggle.itch.io/sunnyside>.

Recorded here verbatim because **the pack ships no licence file**; these terms
live only on the itch.io page.

> This asset pack can be used in free and commercial projects. You can modify
> the assets as you need. Credit is not necessary, but always appreciated.
> You may not repackage and resell the assets, no matter how much they are
> modified - this includes as NFT's. You may not use these assets to train AI.

**What this means for Boonseed:**

- Shipping the art inside the game, modified or graded, is permitted. So is
shipping his LEVEL DESIGN: the world is his `Room1`, imported whole, and
"you can modify the assets as you need" covers a room file as squarely as it
covers a tile. A 2026-08-04 handoff hesitated over this and was wrong to; the
hesitation is recorded in `docs/HANDOFF-2026-08-04.md` so it is not repeated.
- The graded pack may **never** be released or sold *as an asset pack*, however
heavily reworked. "Our own asset pack" is a description of use, not of rights.
This is the ONLY bar, and it is about redistribution, not about use.
- **These assets may not be used to train AI**, which is a separate clause and
is easy to skim past in a list about redistribution.
- Credit is not required. It is given here anyway.

# Pixelwood Valley — the purchased pack (2026-08-10)

`pixelwood.png` is packed by `node tools/pixelwood-pack.mjs` from
`art-src/pixelwood/`, which holds three purchased **Gowl** products bought as
part of the $15.55 17-pack bundle — <https://gowldev.itch.io/pixelwood-valley>:

- **Pixelwood Valley 1.1.3** (`art-src/pixelwood/valley/`) — 486 PNGs, the
world art: tiles, buildings, trees, rocks, farm, animals, NPCs, the player
character, interiors, water, winter and beach sets.
- **Pixelwood Valley UI Expansion 1.0.1** (`art-src/pixelwood/ui/`) — 258
files, including the nine dialogue portraits and the dialogue box.
- **Pixelwood Valley Icon Pack 1.0** (`art-src/pixelwood/icons/`).

**These are the PREMIUM tiers.** The free tiers of Pixelwood are
non-commercial only and cannot ship; the premium licence permits commercial
use and free modification, credit optional, and bars resale, AI-training
datasets and NFTs.

**Like Sunnyside, the pack ships no licence file** — the terms live only on the
itch.io product pages, which is why they are restated here.

**What this means for Boonseed:**

- Shipping the art inside the game, modified or graded, is permitted.
`tools/pixelwood-pack.mjs` strips the artist's baked drop shadows at pack
time, which "you can modify the assets as you need" squarely covers.
- `art-src/pixelwood/` is a BUILD INPUT and is committed to a **private**
repository. Nothing under `art-src/` is served. If this repository is ever
made public, that directory has to come out first — committing the source
art to a public repo is redistribution, which the licence bars.
- Resale is barred, and packing the art onto one sheet inside our own game is
  not resale.
